A576 1030

2 source records. Standards, editions and conditions are presented separately; matching grade names do not establish interchangeability.

Refer to each source for mass fractions and analysis type. Missing values are not treated as 0. Manufacturer typical values, standard guarantees and measured heat results must remain separate. Use the material selector for calculations and condition selection.

IIW / CEV:0.3800–0.4900Known-element contribution; incomplete value; missing Cr, Mo, V, Ni, Cu; ordering or conditional requirements remain unresolved CEV = C + Mn/6 + (Cr + Mo + V)/5 + (Ni + Cu)/15; an engineering estimate of welding cold-cracking susceptibility for carbon and low-alloy steels.
Pcm(Ito–Bessyo):0.3100–0.3850Known-element contribution; incomplete value; missing Si, Cu, Cr, Ni, Mo, V, B; ordering or conditional requirements remain unresolved Pcm = C + Si/30 + (Mn + Cu + Cr)/20 + Ni/60 + Mo/15 + V/10 + 5B; mainly used for low-carbon low-alloy steels, particularly modern low-carbon pipeline steels; more relevant when C is approximately no higher than 0.11%.
CET:0.3400–0.4300Known-element contribution; incomplete value; missing Mo, Cr, Cu, Ni; ordering or conditional requirements remain unresolved CET = C + (Mn + Mo)/10 + (Cr + Cu)/20 + Ni/40; used in welding preheat assessment for ferritic steels, subject to the applicability conditions of EN 1011-2.

Applicability and limitations

ASTM A576-17 applies to hot-worked bars of quality carbon steel; Table 1 gives ladle chemistry. It must not be assumed to guarantee wire-rod supply or finished cold-heading properties. Table 1 note C: Si, when needed, is agreed at order; common options are ≤0.10, 0.10–0.20, 0.15–0.35 or 0.20–0.40%. Without agreement, do not assign a fixed Si value. Table 1 note D: Cu ≥0.20% may be specified when required; this is conditional. Notes E/F/G: Pb, B and Bi/Ca/Se/Te apply when specified; do not automatically add Pb or a B minimum to all grades. Clause 7.1 requires reporting Cu/Cr/Ni/Mo/V/Nb contents; a reporting requirement does not mean Table 1 sets limits for these elements. Clause 5.1 allows other chemical ranges to be agreed under Table 2; Table 2 is not a mandatory set of additional limits for every Table 1 grade.

Verification notes

Applicability and limitations

The chemical composition currently shown is transcribed from the original ASTM A576-2017; The original record cites ASTM A576-2025; that original edition remains unavailable, and differences between editions have not been confirmed. ASTM A576-17 applies to hot-finished bars of quality carbon steel; Table 1 specifies heat analysis; This must not be assumed to guarantee the performance of wire rod or finished cold-heading products.. ; Table 1 Note C: Si shall be according to order agreement when required, commonly ≤0.10, 0.10–0.20, 0.15–0.35, or 0.20–0.40%.; Do not enter a fixed Si value if not agreed upon. ; Table 1 Note D: When Cu is required, Cu≥0.20% may be specified, which is a conditional requirement.. ; Notes E/F/G: Pb, B, and Bi/Ca/Se/Te are all applicable only when specified.; Do not automatically add Pb/B lower limits to all grades. ; Clause 7.1 requires reporting the content of Cu/Cr/Ni/Mo/V/Nb; the reporting requirement is not equivalent to the provision of limits for these elements in Table 1.. ; Clause 5.1 allows other chemical ranges to be agreed upon according to Table 2.; Table 2 does not impose additional mandatory limits on every grade in Table 1..

Verification notes
