1541 CLASS B
2 source records. Standards, editions and conditions are presented separately; matching grade names do not establish interchangeability.
Refer to each source for mass fractions and analysis type. Missing values are not treated as 0. Manufacturer typical values, standard guarantees and measured heat results must remain separate. Use the material selector for calculations and condition selection.

Composition
| Element | Composition requirement |
|---|---|
| C | 0.36 ~ 0.44 |
| Mn | 1.35 ~ 1.65 |
| P | ≤ 0.04 (lower limit not stated) |
| S | ≤ 0.05 (lower limit not stated) |
Applicability and limitations
Chemical composition is based on ASTM A311/A311M-2004; The reaffirmed 2020 edition remains unavailable. Heat-analysis mass fractions wt%, based on edition 2004, Table 1; Unspecified elements are not entered as zero. Class A is stress-relieved after ordinary-reduction cold drawing; Class B is stress-relieved after greater-reduction cold drawing; Classification does not change the chemical composition in Table 1; mechanical requirements must be checked separately by size and category in Table 2. Table 1, footnote A: 0.15–0.35% is specified only when addition of Pb is required by the order; L is inserted between the second and third characters of the grade designation; Ordinary grades do not automatically include Pb. This standard covers stress-relieved cold-drawn bars; it does not establish cold-heading suitability or an additional supplied product.
Verification notes
Chemical composition follows original 2004, Table 1; The original reaffirmed 2020 edition has not been verified; equivalence between editions is not assumed.1541 Class B · ASTM A311/A311M-2004
